As if the ferry ride itself isn’t enough excitement for your little one, there’s lots to explore on Shelter Island. Nestled between the two forks on the East End of Long Island, this 27-square-mile island boasts family-friendly activities, spectacular views and various wildlife creatures. Just a seven-minute ferry from Greenport or Sag Harbor will get you there. The north ferry gets you into Shelter Island Heights, while the south ferry drops you off at the opening of Smith Cove. It costs between $15 to $20 per round-trip, including your vehicle. If you’re looking for things to do before or after your trip to Shelter Island, check out our Day Trip to Greenport (if you're coming from the north) or our Day Trip to Bridgehampton (if you're coming from the south). And our Hamptons and North Fork Guide is packed with family-friendly activities on the East End of Long Island.
